Third Looks

I’m proud to announce a new web project I’ve embarked on.

It’s called THIRD LOOKS . The site revolves around my personal takes on style, culture, and products. It’s going to feature original content as well as some of my favorite high-resolution visuals from past , present and future. Get in on the ground floor, come through take a tour. Remember that third looks are more than second glances.

Please leave a note as well if you’d like to contribute to the site as I’m looking for a global team of photographers, stylists and writers.

PS. Of course I love my tumblr peeps so I have setup a tumblr presence for THIRD LOOKS TUMBLR

Maison Martin Margiela Spring Summer 2011

Not sure about how I feel about the direction of MMM but the S/S 2011 presentation continues the tradition of display the clothes in non-traditional ways.

Scott Campbell

Reknowned tattoo artist Scott Campbell just unveiled his collection of laser-cut one dollar bills over in Soho last week at OhWow gallery. The exhibit runs through May 30, 2010.

Crank up the volume

Came across this great piece over at the v-man site written by Karlo Steel about the development of menswear going from a skinny shape and silhouette to one with flow and volume.

"One of seeds for this shift were planted by several seasons earlier by Kris van Assche’s debut collection for Dior Homme (S/S 08), at the time one of the most critically lauded and watched menswear labels. Kris unveiled a series of multi pleated, volumnous trousers that signaled a move away from the super slim look the house was famous for. That same season, Lanvin were continuing their experiments with fabrications to achieve a kind of floaty weightlessness, and Stefano Pilati presented oversized, unstructured jackets and coats. It would take a few seasons before these proposals would begin to resonate, but now there are more than a few designers who work within this vernacular, of which Rick Owens seems to be the most captivating."

Rick Owens Furniture Berlin Show

"Rick Owens originally custom-designed most of his furniture for his own use in his Paris headquarters. The forms are as sculptural as his clothing but have a monolithic weight to them. They are made predominantly from raw plywood, resin and fibreglass but several pieces could just as easily be carved in stone. He has (almost) completely suppressed any temptation to add decorative gothic touches beyond the rather poetic use of a pair of antlers serving as asymmetric wings to a pair of chairs. He even, rather decently, covers up a standard lamp in cashmere. Owens is clearly no dilettante when it comes to furniture - these are strong pieces and it is not without reason that he is now represented in this field by one of the worlds most respected design galleries: Jousse Entreprise. The Brick House

alt width ="500"

For inspiration or just to look at pictures of beautiful spaces. The Brick House is a great resource. It features in-depth looks at interior design from a holistic lifestyle angle. The site was already the spawn of Morgan Satterfield who lives in Hemet , CA.

In his own words his motivation for the site "Because we’re renovating a mid century cement brick house in the middle of retirement hell, making it awesome and doing it on a budget."

Spring/Summer Neutrals

Color for summer doesn't have to be bold or in your face. In fact sometimes neutral, downplayed and natural colors work best. Easily paired with darker colors (navy, black) or even patterns, summer neutrals are a good break from standard old white for spring/summer.

MIA - Born Free

MIA has been laying low for awhile but comes out with this new video "Born Free" directed by Romain-Gavras who might be best known for his work on Justice - Stress. This video is unique stylistically mixing a voyeuristic style with gritty depictions of LA life.
You may NOT want to watch this if you are squeamish or at work
